Covid -19 Vaccine

Update

We are currently vaccinating the following age groups;

Over 75s - Completed.

65-70

We are contacting our oldest patients first and working our way back towards the youngest patients in the age groups. Our ability to do this is constrained by our limited supply of vaccines. Please bear with us, we will be in touch as soon as we can.

All other age groups and at risk groups as well as housebound patients will be immunised through the mass vaccination centres (MVCs) and we'd suggest you direct any queries to them. Please follow the link for more information:

We are pleased to confirm that we have signed up to the COVID-19 vaccination programme in conjunction with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Public Health Wales. Delivering a mass vaccination programme on a large scale is an enormous challenge and requires a great deal of preparation and planning.

Initially we have been asked to vaccinate ONLY our patients aged 80yrs old and over as directed by the Welsh Government. We will start with our oldest patients and then work our way down the age groups.

We are very restricted by supplies of the vaccine at the moment so please bear with us. We have started booking some small clinics and we will contact eligible patients by telephone provisionally at this stage. Please do not ring us to make an appointment we have to operate within the strict guidance of the Health Board at this stage.

We will have thousands of patients to vaccinate over the coming weeks and are initially running small clinics and reviewing how successful these clinics are. We hope that soon we will have larger stocks of the vaccine delivered so we are then able to run larger clinics.

We are currently planning on using the New Church Rooms in Radyr and kindly the Reverend Vicki Burrows has been very obliging in this planning process. We want to make our clinics as safe and as effective as possible whilst at the same time maintain the normal services at the surgery in order to provide patients with their ongoing healthcare and support.

Here is some guidance in respect of some frequently asked questions.....

Shielding and Housebound Patients:

Shielding and housebound patients will be contacted by the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board mass vaccination team. We cannot at this stage confirm when this will take place. Alternatively, if you feel you are able to come to the Practice please let us know as it will relieve strain on the mobile mass vaccination teams.

Care Home Residents will also be vaccinated by the mass vaccination team.

Transport:

Patients will need to arrange their own transport to and from the surgery. We appreciate that this may pose some difficulties and would encourage you make these arrangements well in advance of your appointment time.

You can also contact VEST for help with transport needs.

VEST Cardiff Tel: 02920 490335 www.vestcommunitytransport.org

Carers:

We have had lots of queries from patients who are carers. In accordance with guidance from Public Health Wales please note that as well as those aged 16-64 years old with long-term health conditions (priority group 6) the vaccine will also be offered to:

- those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person   whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill

- younger adults in long stay nursing and residential settings and staff.

Healthcare and Social Care Professionals:

We are not directly vaccinating Health and Social Care professionals. If you are employed by the NHS you should be invited to attend one of the mass vaccination centres directly via your department/manager.

We kindly as for your patience at this time. Please DO NOT ring the surgery or come into the surgery to make enquiries. We thank you again for your co-operation. We are doing our best to make sure our patients are vaccinated as soon as possible
